Non-Resident Producer Licensing Application & Requirements

In order to qualify as a Missouri nonresident insurance agent, you must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Submit the NAIC Uniform Application for Individual Insurance Producer License in one of two ways:
    • Online via the National Insurance Producer Registry - or -
    • Print out and mail to to MO DIFP – Insurance, PO Box 690, Jefferson City MO.
  • If applying by mail, submit a $100 application fee. Personal checks are not accepted. Business check, money order, or cashier’s check payable to the MO DIFP – Insurance.
  • A Certification Letter from the producer’s home state is not required. License status will be verified through PDB.
  • Applicants who currently hold a resident license in Missouri need to notify our office of a change of address on the Change of Producer Status form. A new application and fee are not necessary.

When the license has been issued:

  • Secure company certification. Appointment is required by each company for which business is transacted.

Each nonresident producer may renew the license biennially within 60 days of their current expiration date.

Nonresident producers must send a $100 biennial license fee by the expiration date. A Certification Letter from the agent’s home state is not required. License status will be verified through PDB as proof of continuing education compliance (PDB Participating State Report at https://www.nipr.com/html/nrlHomeStates.html).

Requirements for maintaining your non-resident insurance agent license in Missouri:

  • You must maintain a resident license in your home state for the same lines of authority that you are qualified for in Kansas.
  • Sections 375.141.6 and 375.141.7, RSMo Cum. Supp. 2005, require that insurance producers licensed in this state report to the director within thirty (30) days any administrative action taken against the producer in another jurisdiction or by another governmental agency in this state, or any criminal prosecution for a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude taken in any jurisdiction. The report shall include a copy of the indictment or information filed, the order resulting from the hearing and any other relevant legal documents.
  • You must notify MO DIFP – Insurance of an address change, etc. within 30 days of such change.
  • Renew license on the biennial due date with a $100 fee.
