Jefferson City, Mo. - Missouri Department of Insurance Director John M. Huff received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners during its Fall National Meeting. He was recognized for his tenure on the U.S. Department of Treasury's Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC).

"I am humbled and greatly appreciative to receive this award," said Huff. "It was an honor to serve the NAIC as its first state insurance regulator on the council."

Huff was appointed to the council in September 2010. For four years he was the state regulator's voice on the council. His term expired this year.

FSOC was established under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The council provides comprehensive monitoring of the stability of the nation's financial system. The council is charged with identifying risks to the financial stability of the United States; promoting market discipline; and responding to emerging risks to the stability of the United States' financial system. The council, which consists of 10 voting members and five nonvoting members, brings together the expertise of federal financial regulators, state regulators and an independent insurance expert appointed by the President.
