Loss Cost History

Below is a historical listing of the yearly and cumulative loss cost changes from the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) filings.

The historical information begins on January 1, 1994, which was the effective date of Senate Bill 251. One of the results of Senate Bill 251 was a change to a competitive market system for workers' compensation insurance in Missouri, from an administered pricing system.

The changes, as noted below, are based upon the last NCCI loss cost filing made prior to the passage of Senate Bill 251, which was the 1/1/1992 loss cost filing.

Industry Rate Comparisons

MDI receives numerous requests for lists of company loss cost multipliers (LCMs). Since Missouri publishes four different sets of loss costs (and allows companies to incorporate their own data as well), a list of LCMs will not help you unless you know which set of loss costs a company has adopted.

Since Missouri statutes require each insurer to file final WC rates, you can use the search tool below to find the overall rate changes since 1994 for each company. You can calculate their LCMs from their rate changes. The NCCI used a LCM of 1.372 prior to 1994.
